Sink into the wine country way of life
With roots that date back to 1884 the Napa River Inn continues to be the mainstay of unparalleled luxury among the bustling renaissance of Napa Valley’s Riverfront District.
Located within the historic Napa Mill originally built in 1862 where daily steamships excursions transporting San Francisco’s elite along Napa Rivers passageway to the Embarcadero dockage in downtown Napa.
Locally owned and operated Napa River Inn’s continual commitment to preserving its history has garnered the property the prestigious Historic Hotel of America designation and their dedication to superlative hospitality has honored by receiving the highest Michelin rates and Forbes 4-Star rewards.
Reflections of yesterdays stately charm envelopes one as easily as opening their front door revealing the foyer of the Napa River Inn. Dark marble columns suspend a vaulted ceiling. Champagne peach walls are adorned with photos of times past while hand woven tapestry rugs frame seating nooks of era perfect antiques of rich royal hues. Flames from the fireplace perform an enthralling dance that seem to cast an air of tranquility and the warmth comes from the genuine smiles of their attentive staff.
You can continue to relish in all the charms of yesterday by choosing one of their Executive Historic Deluxe suite located on the second floor. Stately vivd rooms with King Canopy beds, a gas fireplace, sitting nook and both a walk-in tiled shower and a slipper-backed tub.
It’s an intimate experience worthy of homemade chocolates, a bottle of Champagne or Cabernet Sauvignon and your favorite music.
If you prefer a modern decor with a riverfront balcony, then the Executive Plaza Deluxe awaits. The interior decor of soft sandstone, taupe and touches of marine blue mimic your views of the Napa River. Luxurious King bed, gas fireplace, dual upholstered high back chairs and a writing desk feels like a welcoming extension of home.
It was hard to decide which amenity allowed for my most restful sleep; the nightlong caress from the Hidden America linens or choosing from the selection of five different pillows achieving that perfect level of comfort. The obvious is that because of the Inn’s attention to detail, it was both.
Luxury is about the details. Every room and suite offer a vast level of pampering ensuring your comfort: beverage refrigerator stocked with spring fresh water bottles, Linova 100% cotton robes and towels, NV Organic hygiene products, Hidden America luxurious linens, Bluetooth enabled CD clock radio, flat panel HDTV with HD channels, complimentary daily newspaper, and high-speed WIFI to help you connect to the world, if you want to.
Your day begins with a delivery of freshly baked breakfast pastries, orange juice or fruit melody and pipping hot coffee from Sweetie Pies bakery. Breakfast in bed is pure indulgence.
The Spa at the Napa River Inn is a full-service day spa specializing in custom massages, facials and body treatments. Time to lift ones sense of spirit with their decadent Royal Spa body rejuvenation package.
It starts with a wine grape seed foot treatment, then a hour-long full body massage to revive ones core and then a deeply clarifying richly antioxidant facial.

The experience will surely allow one to drift into a deep state of relaxation but yet, energized.
Out & About
One just needs to take a stroll around Napa Mill’s ground to understand why this magical place has been the anchor of Napa’s Riverfront District since 1884.
As an expression of their commitment to the community, the Napa River Inn is proud to be a part of downtowns Napa River Art Walk. Several amazing pieces of artwork are located throughout the plaza. “Terrrance Martin’s sculpture known as “Fish On” and “The mosaic fountain” by Alan Sheep are captivating works of arts and not to be missed.
The plaza also serves as a community meeting place with outdoor art, theater, wine, food and music festivals each year. The waterfront location grants the ease of either strolling or my favorite by cruiser bike, access to all downtowns speciality boutiques, Oxbow Market, gourmet restaurants, historic 19th century mansion neighborhoods, river kayaking and world-re-known wines waiting to be uncorked.
The on-premise restaurants include the Napa General Store, perfect for the luncheon salad or clam chowder. Celadon serves ‘Global Comfort Food’ with a lovely patio setting and Angéle ‘French country cuisine’ offers courtyard or riverfront dining.
“Good food is very, even most often, simple food”
The Napa River In well deserves its recognition of downtown Napa’s most awarded hotel. It is dedicated to relaxed luxury, providing fine accommodations, stellar service and soul pampering. Perfect for couples looking to get away, reconnect and celebrate life.
Next time I feel the need for ‘escape’, I know where to go.
